The long spell of dry weather combined with not very high tides and water leaks is making it difficult for the EA to maintain the millpond water level at the planned summer levels.
They have managed to keep the levels 'just adequate' and 'adequate' through active management over the past thee weeks (drain down excepted), which is a step in the right direction.
Part of that has entailed carrying out some recent work to the south sluice gate, where the seals were encrusted with barnacles in order to reduce leakage.
In addition the Agency is now actively updating its procedures, to bring greater stability to the water levels going forward. i.e by taking account of more localized weather conditions than in the past and raising the working level together with the minimum bad weather levels.
